Today's Walk Through Hampden

I’ve been taking long walks lately to explore areas in my neighborhood of Hampden and surrounding area that I haven’t really expearienced much. Today the west side of Hampden, that is the west side of Falls Road. The only reason I have to cross Falls Road is to go to Atomic Books. Here are a few things I saw.

Ayn Rand tag. This is weird because I was thinking about how much I dislike Ayn Rand today. This is actually on the east side of Hampden. Ayn Rand

Part of some sort of old timey musical instrument. Something?

These are some of the original mill workers homes. This is on a little secluded dirt road and I bet a lot of people living in Hampden don’t even know this place exists. Mill Houses

Some spooky stone steps in the woods. They lead nowhere. Spooky Stone Steps

Someone’s interesting garden. Garden

The crazy elaborate pool at Roosevelt Park. Roosevelt Park's Crazy Pool

The community garden at Roosevelt Park. Community Garden

People with sticks fighting people with umbrellas is an empty pool. I’m not sure what this is all about. Umbrellas vs. Sticks

I used to be completley indifferent to Of Montreal, but i sort of like them a little bit because of this.

American Stonehenge: Monumental Instructions for the Post-Apocalypse

The strangest monument in America looms over a barren knoll in northeastern Georgia. Five massive slabs of polished granite rise out of the earth in a star pattern. The rocks are each 16 feet tall, with four of them weighing more than 20 tons apiece. Together they support a 25,000-pound capstone. Approaching the edifice, it’s hard not to think immediately of England’s Stonehenge or possibly the ominous monolith from 2001: A Space Odyssey. Built in 1980, these pale gray rocks are quietly awaiting the end of the world as we know it.

Reeses Peanut Butter Cup OF DEATH

anjalouise:

sharingtime:

“Nearly 35 pounds of Psilocybin (hallucinogenic) mushrooms baked into about 500 chocolate peanut butter cups were intercepted by Murfreesboro Police vice detectives before being sold at Bonnaroo music festival beginning Thursday in Manchester.

Vice detectives Wednesday raided the Kingwood Drive home of suspect Charles Culver, 22, and located the illegal drug with a street value of $10,000, said police spokesman Kyle Evans.

“We have seen an increase in LSD over the past several years and this is another form or substitute for that drug,” Evans said.

“The affects are hallucinogenic in nature, similar to LSD. They are very dangerous and there have been incidents of people dying the first time they used this drug.”

Origin of the mushrooms is not being disclosed.

There’s no telling how many lives these detectives have saved by keeping these drugs off the street and they should be commended for an outstanding investigation leading to these arrests,” Evans said.

Peanut allergies are deadly, kids. Stay safe!

SHROOOOOMS

“No one has ever died from taking shrooms before, they’re all natural!” (awesome line from the movie Shrooms, then heard almost the exact same line in the Shrooming episode of Peep Show)

This story is shocking to me for one reason.  When I lived in Belgium during the 80’s I tried to convince the english kids at my school of the magic of combining chocolate with peanut butter but they always looked at me with disgust.  It was a completely abhorrent idea to them.  Finally the British have discovered the joy of someone putting their chocolate in your peanut butter.
